July has been a blessing for Galito’s Namibia. As the month draws to a close, we’re filled with gratitude. This month we opened our 9th Galito’s store in Namibia, right in the heart of Okuryangava. We’re so thankful to have been welcomed into this community, and to now call it home.
This store is extra special: it’s our second GaliPod in the country, following the success of our first at Pioneers Park.
What is a GaliPod?
A GaliPod is a fully operational Galito’s restaurant built inside a repurposed shipping container. It’s a model we’ve used successfully across Africa to bring flame-grilled chicken into spaces a traditional store simply can’t reach, smaller footprints, growing residential areas, and communities that deserve great food close to home.
From Steel Box to Store
Watching this build come together was something else. A steel container that once carried cargo across the ocean was transformed into a fully working restaurant:
- Structurally reinforced and insulated for Namibia’s climate
- Fitted out with a complete commercial kitchen – grills, prep stations, refrigeration
- Wired and plumbed to full restaurant operating standards
- Finished inside and out with the Galito’s look our guests know and love
The result is a restaurant that looks, feels, and performs like any other Galito’s. Built faster and with a fraction of the material footprint of a conventional structure.
Why It Matters for Sustainability
The GaliPod model isn’t just a clever way to grow, it’s a genuinely more sustainable way to build:
Repurposed materials. Every GaliPod starts as a used shipping container rather than requiring a from-scratch build.
A smaller construction footprint. Less concrete, less structural material, and a shorter build timeline than a traditional restaurant, meaning less disruption to the surrounding area.
Flexibility that reduces waste. GaliPods can be relocated if a market’s needs change, so nothing goes to waste if a site no longer works.
Investment where it counts. This lower-cost, flexible format lets us bring jobs and great food into communities a conventional build might overlook, exactly what’s happening in Okuryangava.
Growing With Namibia
Since entering the Namibian market in 2023, we’ve grown to 9 stores. This second GaliPod is proof that smart, sustainable building and serious growth can go hand in hand and a vote of confidence in the communities we’re growing into.
Thank You
To our construction and skills training teams, our team at HQ, the amazing team working in-store for their devotion and the Okuryangava community who welcomed us in, thank you.
July, you’ve been good to us, and this is what growth looks like when it’s done thoughtfully, sustainably, and with people at the centre of it.
Here’s to store #9, and to many more GaliPods across Namibia.
